Preston 47 v 58 Burnley
Pride again with a depleated squad came up against a strong Burnley side. Pride struggled through the game as the point guard position was venerable and this was capitalised on by the Burnley side. Preston kept Burnleys danger men at bay with some good man-to-man defence however it was the lack of offence threat which was evident. At the end of the first qtr Pride struggled to score many points as Burnley led 8-14. The 2nd qtr was very much the sam as Pride were slow to the ball and gave away too many passes's and hence Burnley netted on the break. Half time Burnley led 16-26. The 3rd qtr started a little better after a stern talk by the Pride coach and this then led to a good fight back from the Preston side. With a 7-point run at the end of the qtr Pride were back in the game at 37-43. Key shots were missed at this critical point and with Burnley netting on the break Pride again were playing catch-up. With only 2 mins left a full court man defence was required, however Burnley kept composed an ran out victors.
Preston 42 v 63 Burnley
Pride's U18 3rd team knew this was to be a hard game as they only had on the bench one recognised big man. Burnley started the strongest as they broke the Pride defence faily easily to go into a 7-14 lead. Pride were restricted to outside shots as they found it hard to hit a good shot. At the end of the first quarter Burnley raced into a 7-17 led. The second period was not much better for Pride as big gaps were appearing in the centre. Only Dec Toussaints keep Pride within distance however this still gave Burnley a 22 led at the half way at 14-36. Pride started the 3rd quarter in a better frame of mind as their defence tightened and stopped Burnley on the break. The deficit started to fall as Pride came back in the game as dan Holyfield hit consecutive points. With seven minutes of the 3rd quarter gone Pride were back in the game at 27-38. This was not to last as with a few bad passes in offence Burnley hit 3 quick baskets right on at the end of the 3rd to give them a lead at 29-44. As Pride changed to a pressure defence to pull the game back, Steve Sharples hit two drives, however Burnley were just too quick on the break and hence ran out easy winners at 42-63.
